Identity Theft Information

What to do if you fall victim to Identity Theft

  • Contact your financial institution immediately and alert it to the situation.
  • If you have disclosed sensitive information in a phishing attack, you should also contact one of the three major credit bureaus and discuss whether you need to place a fraud alert on your file, which will help prevent thieves from opening a new account in your name. Here is the contact information for each bureau’s fraud division:

P.O. Box 740250 Atlanta, GA 30374

P.O. Box 1017 Allen, TX 75013

P.O. Box 6790 Fullerton, CA 92634

Report all suspicious contacts to the Federal Trade Commission through the Internet or by calling 1-877-IDTHEFT.

You can fight identity theft!

Here's how:

  • Never provide personal financial information, including your Social Security number, account numbers or passwords, over the phone or the Internet if you did not initiate the contact.
  • Never click on the link provided in an e-mail you believe is fraudulent. It may contain a virus that can contaminate your computer.
  • Do not be intimidated by an e-mail or caller who suggests dire consequences if you do not immediately provide or verify financial information.
  • If you believe the contact is legitimate, go to the company’s Website by typing in the site address directly or using a page you have previously book marked, instead of a link provided in the e-mail.
  • If you fall victim to an attack, act immediately to protect yourself. Alert your financial institution. Place fraud alerts on your credit files. Monitor your credit files and account statements closely.
  • Report suspicious e-mails or calls to the Federal Trade Commission through the Internet or by calling 1-877-IDTHEFT.

Guaranteed Auto Protection Insurance

Your Auto Insurance Does Not Cover Everything

In the event your vehicle is deemed a total loss due to an accident or theft, your auto insurance policy will usually cover only the actual cash value or market value of your vehicle less a deductible. This settlement could be significantly less than the amount you owe to your lender or leasing company. The final result is a financial GAP where you must make up the difference, which could mean thousands of dollars out of your pocket.

Protection Through Guaranteed Auto Protection

Guaranteed Auto Protection Protects individuals who finance a new or used vehicle from the financial GAP. In the current market, during the first few years that you own your vehicle, your loan/lease balance can be higher than the actual value of your vehicle, as a result of depreciation. As your vehicle’s value declines, your loan/lease balance may decline more slowly, resulting in a financial gap. If your vehicle were stolen or totaled in an accident, you would be liable to pay the difference between your insurance settlement and your outstanding loan/lease balance.

Guaranteed Auto Protection covers the difference between the actual cash value of your vehicle and the loan/lease balance, less delinquent payments, late charges, refundable service warranty contracts and other insurance-related charges.

Guaranteed Auto Protection will even cover your auto insurance deductible of $500 or $1,000. The actual amount depends on your credit union’s program limits. Ask your Credit Union loan officer for details.

Guaranteed Auto Protection is a loan / lease deficiency waiver and is not offered as insurance coverage.

The purchase of Guaranteed Auto Protection is voluntary and cannot be required as a condition of credit approval.

Mechanical Breakdown Insurance

Like all credit unions, AFECU is a not-for-profit financial cooperative. Are you tired of those high-cost Vehicle Extended Warranties from dealers and manufacturers? Then check with your credit union regarding a Vision Warranty Corp. Extended Protection Plan. Generally, the plans available through Vision provide similar coverage to the dealer’s/manufacturer’s plan, but can be obtained for significantly less — in some instances hundreds of dollars on an extended warranty. These warranty plans are issued by Vision, and may be included in the vehicle financing provided by the Credit Union.

Protect your vehicle with one of three MBI plans (Level 1, Level 2, and Level 3).

Level.1 ONE Coverage is our drivetrain coverage for high mileage vehicles. It covers the vehicle’s most important and expensive components – the Engine, the Transmission, and the Drive Axle.

Level.2 TWO Coverage is a more comprehensive plan which not only covers the above components – but also covers the Brakes (ABS & Non ABS), Air Conditioner, Steering, Suspension, Fuel, and Electrical components.

Level.3 THREE WRAP is the top level of coverage. This plan covers the above components, along with other parts on the vehicle EXCEPT those listed in the section labeled “EXCLUSIONS” in the service contract.

Examples of parts that are not covered under this plan are: tires, wheels, shocks, brake shoes or pads, rotors or drums, accessory drive belt, exhaust pipes, catalytic converter, mufflers and resonators, pressure plate, clutch disc, pilot bearing, throw-out bearing, clutch engagement arm and pivot, spark plugs, distributor cap, body parts, interior trim parts or fabric, glass, paint, or frame. Any part that is considered regular maintenance is not covered. For a complete list of EXCLUSIONS, see the service contract.

Note: See the service contract for the complete information regarding coverage.
